Grand Prix Circuit came out in 1988 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Distinctive Software. It was a solid Formula One racing title for its time, offering a detailed simulation experience on the PC when many racing games were still quite arcade-focused. You could tell it was built by people who understood both the technical side of the sport and what made a game engaging to play.
You control a single Formula One driver through a full season, managing your car's fuel and tire wear while racing against opponents who are not shy about making contact. The main objective is to win the championship by performing well across all the circuits. Signature mechanics include manual gear shifting for better control, a detailed setup screen where you adjust wings and tire pressure, and a punishing damage model that forces careful driving. The pace is methodical; one mistake can ruin your entire race. It feels like a genuine test of concentration and racecraft, not just speed.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
