Grandia Disc 1 of 2 (J) came out for the Sega Saturn in 1997, developed by Game Arts. You control Justin, a young boy who dreams of following in his adventurer father's footsteps. Your main goal is to explore ancient ruins and uncover the secrets of a lost civilization, which naturally means a lot of dungeon delving and screen by screen exploration. Combat uses a unique timing based system where you can interrupt enemy attacks or be interrupted yourself if you mistime your actions. The pacing is deliberate, letting you soak in the environments and character interactions, and the difficulty feels fair without being punishing. It just feels like a genuine, personal journey from start to finish.
