Game Overview

Gripple is one of those puzzle games from the MS-DOS era, part of a collection simply labeled 0 MS-DOS Classic Games. It was developed by an outfit called Softdisk Publishing, known for their shareware titles that filled many a floppy disk back then. The game fits right into that early 90s period where puzzle design was often about pure, unadorned logic, presented without much fanfare or story.

You control a cursor that pushes blocks around single-screen, grid-based puzzles. The main objective is to maneuver all the blocks onto specific target squares, clearing each stage to progress. The signature mechanics involve careful planning of your path, as you can only push blocks and never pull them, and one wrong move can permanently block your progress, often requiring a restart. The pacing is deliberate and the difficulty steep, with later puzzles demanding serious forethought. It feels like untangling a stubborn knot in your mind, and the satisfaction of that final click into place is deeply rewarding.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
