Guardians (or Denjin Makai II, if you're feeling fancy) is one of those arcade beat 'em ups that somehow flew under the radar back in the day—which is a shame, because it's an absolute blast. You pick from this wild roster of fighters, from cyborgs to martial artists, and just plow through waves of enemies with over-the-top moves. The animations are surprisingly slick for its time, especially when you land a screen-clearing super attack.

What really makes it stand out is how each character feels completely different—some are slow but hit like trucks, others are glass cannons with insane combos. And yeah, it's way more fun with a buddy in co-op, though good luck not accidentally punching each other half the time. Just expect the usual arcade nonsense where enemies love to gang up on you the second your back is turned.

If you're into classic brawlers but tired of the same old Final Fight clones, this one's got enough weird charm to be worth a few credits.
