Gunsmoke came out for the NES in 1985, developed and published by Konami. It was part of that early wave of arcade-style shooters that felt right at home on the console, offering a straightforward but challenging experience without a lot of frills.

You control a lone marshal who must clear each stage of bandits by moving upward through a fixed, screen-by-screen environment. The main objective is to survive from one end of the stage to the other, defeating a boss at the end. Key mechanics include eight-directional shooting, which lets you aim independently of your movement, and collecting power-ups dropped by enemies to upgrade your weapon or gain temporary invincibility. The pacing is fast and the difficulty is steep, with enemies swarming from all sides. It feels like a tense, constant scramble for survival where every shot and dodge matters.
