Game Overview

Hamurabi, released in 1968 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, was developed by Doug Dyment. It belongs to that early era of computing where games were more about simulation and resource management than flashy graphics or complex narratives. You take on the role of a ruler tasked with managing the kingdom of Sumer, making decisions that will either lead to prosperity or ruin.

As the player, you control the distribution of grain, the purchase and sale of land, and the feeding of your population across a ten-year reign. Your main objective is to grow your kingdom and keep your people from starving, all while dealing with unpredictable factors like rats eating your stores or plague sweeping through the city. The game proceeds in annual turns, with each year presenting a summary of your resources and demanding key choices. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, yet the difficulty comes from balancing short-term survival with long-term growth. It feels like a constant, tense calculation where every decision carries weight.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
