Play Hamurabi Online
You juggle grain, land, and starving peasants in this barebones DOS game—one wrong move, and your kingdom collapses into chaos. The tension’s real, even when it’s just numbers on a screen.

Hamurabi is this weird little text-based game from the DOS era where you play as an ancient ruler trying not to starve your people to death. You’ve got to balance buying land, growing grain, and feeding your population—mess up the math, and suddenly you’ve got riots or, uh, mass graves. The original version was basically one of the first computer games ever made, and this 1996 remake keeps it brutally simple: no graphics, just numbers and consequences. It’s surprisingly tense for something that looks like a spreadsheet.
First time I played, I thought I could just hoard grain and coast—big mistake. Two years in, half my people were dead, and the rest were plotting my downfall. Turns out ruling is harder than it looks.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
