Game Overview

Hanafuda 64 is one of those weird little N64 gems you’d never expect—a full-blown digital version of the classic Japanese flower card game, wrapped in this oddly charming angel-themed story. The cards are gorgeous, with that traditional woodblock-style art popping against the 64’s chunky polygons.

At first, I had no clue what I was doing—those month-based suits and point combos take some getting used to—but the game actually teaches you as you go. There’s something satisfying about slowly figuring out which cards to chase for the best sets, especially when you start recognizing patterns like "oh, the moon card always pairs with that specific flower."

It’s definitely more thoughtful than your average N64 game, but the angel characters and light story bits keep it from feeling too dry. If you’ve ever wanted to try hanafuda without tracking down a physical deck, this is a surprisingly cozy way to do it.
