Hangman on MS-DOS—man, this takes me back. That chunky pixel gallows, the way the stick figure slowly assembled itself with every wrong guess. You'd sit there sweating over whether to risk a vowel or play it safe with common consonants, all while the screen taunted you with blank spaces.
What I loved was how it turned spelling into something tense. One minute you're breezing through, the next you're down to your last limb staring at _ A _ _ E R, praying it's "HAMMER" and not "BANJER" or whatever nonsense the computer cooked up. The sound effects were basically just beeps, but man, that wrong-answer beep still haunts me.
It's one of those games where losing is almost as fun as winning—especially when you realize too late that the word was "xylophone" this whole time. Pure, simple, and weirdly stressful in the best way.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
