Game Overview

I first played Head Over Heels on the Amiga back in 1987, a time when isometric games were starting to show what the platform could really do. It was published by Ocean Software, and it stood out immediately for its clever design and cooperative puzzle mechanics. The game didn't rely on flashy action; instead, it asked you to think your way through each room, which felt fresh compared to a lot of the straightforward platformers of the era.

You control two separate characters, Head and Heels, each with their own abilities; Head can jump high and carry objects, while Heels runs fast and kicks items. The goal is to reunite them and escape from the castle by solving environmental puzzles, collecting crowns, and avoiding enemies. You switch between them on the fly, often needing to combine their skills to progress, like having Heels kick a block into place so Head can use it as a step. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, and the difficulty can be punishing if you rush. Playing it feels like untangling a knot, piece by piece, until everything finally clicks into place.
