Game Overview
FlatOut: Head On came out for the PlayStation Portable in 2008, developed by Bugbear Entertainment and published by Empire Interactive. It was part of that wave of portable racers that tried to bring console-style destruction to a smaller screen, back when the PSP was still competing heavily for handheld attention.
You control a driver in a range of beat-up vehicles, competing in chaotic races across dirt and asphalt tracks. The main goal is to wreck opponents, earn points for destruction, and finish first. Signature mechanics include causing massive crashes that send your ragdoll driver through the windshield, and taking part in absurd stunt mini-games like launching your character at bowling pins or through rings of fire. The pacing is fast and the physics are exaggerated, making every collision feel weighty and unpredictable. It feels reckless and satisfying, like causing a traffic jam just for the fun of it.
