Game Overview
Heretic feels like Doom’s weird fantasy cousin—same fast-paced shooting and key-hunting levels, but now you’re blasting skeletons with magic staffs instead of demons with shotguns. The weapons start off familiar (your basic rapid-fire wand is basically the pistol from Doom), but then you find stuff like the Phoenix Rod, which shoots fireballs that explode twice, or the hilarious Morph Ovum that turns enemies into squawking chickens.
Raven added some fun twists, like rushing water that shoves you around or Tome of Power pickups that supercharge your attacks—suddenly your dinky crossbow fires homing missiles. You can even fly, though the up/down aiming looks kinda janky (it just stretches the pixels weirdly). And yeah, the devs had a sense of humor—try using Doom’s cheat codes and the game straight-up roasts you before taking your weapons away or killing you instantly. Classic.
It’s got that same addictive "just one more secret to find" energy as Doom, but with enough weird fantasy flair to stand on its own.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
