Hexen on the Nintendo 64 came out in 1997, developed by Raven Software and published by id Software. It was one of the darker, more atmospheric first-person games on the system, standing apart from the brighter platformers and racing titles that dominated the era.

You choose one of three characters, a warrior, mage, or cleric, each with unique weapons and abilities, then explore a series of interconnected, puzzle-heavy levels filled with monsters and environmental hazards. Your main goal is to find and activate switches, gather keys, and solve spatial and inventory-based puzzles to progress through the grim, medieval-style worlds. Combat is methodical, often requiring you to manage limited ammunition and health while navigating maze-like structures; the pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be punishing if you rush.
