Control colored pieces on a hexagonal grid, jump over opponents to flip their tokens, and strategize to dominate the board in this classic 1993 strategy game.
Hexxagon came out in 1993 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a time when strategy games were often simple in presentation but deep in execution. It was developed by Software 2000, a name familiar to those who spent hours with thoughtful, turn-based titles. The game doesn't try to overwhelm you with graphics; it relies on a clean, functional design that was common for the era, putting all the focus squarely on the puzzle of the board itself.
You control a set of colored pieces on a hexagonal grid, with the goal of converting all the opponent's tokens to your color or eliminating them entirely. On each turn, you can either move a piece to an adjacent empty hex, cloning it, or jump over one hex to land two away, which flips any enemy pieces in the landing hex to your side. The game escalates quickly; early cautious moves give way to tense, sprawling battles where a single jump can swing control of the entire board. It feels like a careful, cerebral dance where every decision echoes across the whole match.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
