Hoshigami is one of those DS games that sneaks up on you—it looks like a standard tactical RPG at first, but the deeper you go, the more it demands from you. The battles are slow, methodical, and punishing if you rush in. Positioning matters way more than I expected, and even small mistakes can spiral into disaster.
What really hooked me was the skill customization. You don’t just level up and pick from a list—you slot coins into a grid to build abilities, and figuring out weird combos is half the fun. (Turns out stacking defense boosts on a healer makes them weirdly unkillable.) The story’s got that classic JRPG melodrama, but the tactical depth kept me coming back even when the dialogue got cheesy.
Fair warning: it’s not for the impatient. But if you like chess-like battles where every move counts, this one’s a hidden gem.
