Hoshigami - Ruining Blue Earth Remix (or XenoPhobia, depending on which version you're playing) is one of those tactical RPGs that starts simple and then suddenly drowns you in mechanics. At first glance, it feels like a typical grid-based strategy game—move your units, attack, rinse repeat—but then you hit the coin system and realize nothing here plays by the usual rules.

The story throws you into a war between nations with some ancient magic nonsense mixed in (you know how these games go). What surprised me was how much your choices actually matter—pick the wrong dialogue option early on, and you might lock yourself out of recruiting certain characters later. The customization runs deep too, with a weird but satisfying rune engraving system that lets you tweak your party’s stats in bizarre ways.

Fair warning: the difficulty spikes hard if you don’t grind, and the DS port’s menus are… not great. But if you’re into punishing tactical RPGs with more layers than an onion, this one’s weirdly addictive once it clicks.
