Hugo: Black Diamond Fever is this weird little GBC platformer where you play as a troll (yep, a troll) trying to rescue his girlfriend from monsters. It’s got that old-school Donkey Kong vibe—climbing ladders, dodging ghosts and mummies, and scrambling to grab all the red diamonds before time runs out.
Here’s the twist: you could just whip enemies right away, but if you wait until after collecting all the red gems, they drop black diamonds instead—which is what you actually need. Mess up the timing, and you’ll just get coins or random power-ups. And when the clock’s about to expire? Everything turns red and speeds up like the level’s had three cups of coffee. It’s janky in that charming early handheld way, but weirdly satisfying once you get the rhythm down.
