Play Hunchback Online
Swing as Quasimodo over pits and flames, timing jumps just right—those guards look dumb, but the fire traps will wreck you until you learn their rhythm. That janky old-school physics somehow makes nailing a perfect run feel amazing.

Ocean Software released Hunchback in 1983 for MS-DOS, a game that fit right in with the straightforward, action-oriented titles of that era. You play as Quasimodo, the bell-ringer from Victor Hugo's novel, navigating a series of castle screens to rescue Esmeralda. It was a simple premise, typical of the time, built around quick reflexes and memorization rather than complex storytelling.
You control Quasimodo as he moves from left to right across each screen, swinging on ropes over deadly pits and dodging fire traps. The main objective is to reach the end of each stage without falling or getting hit by the guards or environmental hazards. Key mechanics include precise rope swinging, timed jumps over flames, and avoiding or outsmarting patrolling enemies. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is unforgiving, demanding perfect timing and repeated attempts to progress. It feels tense and demanding, but landing a difficult sequence after multiple failures brings a sharp, satisfying sense of accomplishment.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
