Hurricanes is one of those weird, charming SNES games that makes you go, "Wait, what?" at least twice in the first five minutes. You're a soccer team (apparently playing for charity?), but instead of a normal match, you're suddenly kicking your way through an island crawling with giant bugs—scorpions, centipedes, the works. And your only weapon? A soccer ball, obviously.
The controls take a second to get used to—timing your kicks just right feels a little stiff at first, but once it clicks, bouncing enemies off walls with a well-aimed shot is oddly satisfying. The levels are packed with hazards, and sometimes the camera doesn’t keep up, which can be frustrating. But the sheer absurdity of the premise (and the fact that your team just rolls with it) makes it hard to put down.
It’s not perfect, but if you’re into quirky platformers with a weird sense of humor, this one’s a hidden gem.
