Play HyperZone (Japan) Online
Dodge spinning blades and blast neon orbs as your ship hurtles through trippy, twisting tunnels—walls close in fast, and the synth soundtrack makes your palms sweat. The SNES shouldn’t handle this much chaos, but here we are.

HyperZone came out for the Super Nintendo in 1991, developed by HAL Laboratory. It was one of those early SNES titles that leaned into the system's ability to handle fast, colorful, pseudo-3D effects. The game doesn't get talked about much these days, but it had a distinct look and feel that set it apart from other shooters at the time.
You pilot a transforming craft through a series of tunnel-like stages, shooting down enemy ships and dodging obstacles. The main goal is to survive each stage and defeat the boss waiting at the end. Your ship can switch between two forms: a faster, more agile mode and a slower, more powerful one. Each stage scrolls automatically, and the challenge comes from reacting quickly to incoming threats and pattern recognition. The difficulty ramps up steadily, and the abstract, flowing visuals give the whole experience a surreal, almost hypnotic quality. It feels like navigating a high-speed dream.
