Inazuma Eleven 2 is one of those weird, wonderful DS games that somehow makes soccer feel like an anime battle. You start off with a ragtag team of kids who can barely kick straight, but before long, they're pulling off ridiculous special moves like "Dragon Tornado" and "Fire Tornado" (yes, there are a lot of tornadoes). The RPG stuff sneaks up on you—you'll spend as much time recruiting random students from the school hallways as you do actually playing matches.

Matches are chaotic in the best way. You draw paths for passes and shots on the touchscreen, and timing your button presses right feels like landing a critical hit in a turn-based game. The story's cheesy in that over-the-top way only Japanese sports games pull off, complete with evil rival teams and mysterious transfer students. If you ever wished Captain Tsubasa was a DS game with more menu diving, this is basically that.

Just don't expect FIFA—this is soccer turned up to 11, with all the absurdity that implies.
