Initial D on the Sega Saturn nails that late-night, mountain-pass racing vibe from the anime. You start off sliding a tofu delivery car (yes, really) around tight corners, trying not to spin out while keeping your speed up. The physics feel weighty—mess up a drift and you'll understeer straight into the guardrail.
What surprised me was how much the AI racers actually fight for position. They'll block your overtakes and punish mistakes, especially on the later courses. The Eurobeat soundtrack is pure 90s cheese, but it somehow makes nailing a perfect downhill run even more satisfying.
Just don't expect modern graphics—this is pure Saturn-era polygons with jaggies everywhere. But if you're into arcade racers where skill matters more than horsepower upgrades, it's still weirdly addictive.
