Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier came out for the PlayStation Portable in 2009, developed by High Impact Games and published by Sony. It arrived late in the PSP’s life, a time when portable action platformers were still finding their footing, and it tried to carry the series forward with a mix of familiar characters and new mechanics.

You control Jak, with Daxter riding on your shoulder, as you explore islands, fight enemies, and pilot aircraft in dogfights. The main goal involves restoring the world’s supply of eco, a kind of energy source, by completing missions and defeating bosses. Signature mechanics include switching between light and dark eco forms to solve puzzles or gain combat advantages, as well as engaging in on-foot platforming and aerial combat sequences. The pacing is uneven at times, with some sections feeling rushed, but the difficulty remains manageable for most players. It feels like a portable extension of the series, blending action and exploration in short bursts suited to handheld play.
