Jak and Daxter take to the skies—you’ll platform through crumbling ruins one minute, then scramble into a junker plane to outmaneuver pirates the next. Daxter’s occasional rage monster rampages never get old.
Game Overview
Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier came out on the PlayStation Portable in 2009, developed by High Impact Games and published by Sony. It was one of the later platformers on the PSP, arriving at a time when handhelds were still full of ambitious, if sometimes uneven, experiments. The game continues the duo's adventures, this time focusing on a quest for Eco, the energy source central to the series.
You control Jak, navigating environmental puzzles, jumping across platforms, and fighting enemies with melee combos and firearms. Daxter occasionally transforms into a powerful monster, letting you tear through obstacles and foes. A major part of the game involves piloting aircraft for dogfights and exploration. The main goal is to restore the world's supply of Eco, which involves traveling between islands, completing missions, and gathering resources. The pacing is fairly brisk, though some vehicle sections can feel repetitive. It feels like a portable, condensed version of a console Jak game, with all the charm and occasional jank that implies.
