Jake Hunter - Detective Chronicles is one of those DS games that really nails the old-school detective vibe. You play as Jake, a gruff but sharp investigator who spends most of his time chain-smoking in dimly lit offices before getting pulled into some seriously twisty cases. The first mystery I tackled had me interviewing shady characters, picking apart alibis, and even getting a little too invested in whether the suspect’s coffee order matched their story.

The touchscreen makes it feel like you’re actually flipping through case files—scribbling notes, zooming in on evidence, and occasionally slamming your palm on the desk when a witness lies to your face. Some puzzles are tougher than others (I may have brute-forced a lock or two), but when the clues click, it’s weirdly satisfying. If you’ve ever wanted to play a 90s noir episode with worse haircuts, this is your game.
