Joe and Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed and published by Data East. It was part of that wave of colorful, side scrolling action games that felt right at home on the SNES, a straightforward sequel that didn't try to reinvent the wheel but offered a solid dose of cartoonish prehistoric chaos.
You control either Joe or Mac, two cavemen on a mission to rescue their kidnapped girlfriends. The game plays out across a series of side scrolling levels where you punch and club dinosaurs, smash open objects to collect fruit and money, and use temporary power up weapons like boomerangs and fireballs. The main goal is to fight your way through jungles, caves, and enemy villages, defeating a boss at the end of each stage. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially during some of the later platforming sections. It feels like a chaotic, slightly janky cartoon where you are just barely in control.
