Game Overview

Star Tropics 2: Zoda's Revenge came out for the NES in 1994, developed and published by Nintendo. It was a late release for the system, arriving when the Super Nintendo was already well established, but it offered a solid, polished adventure for anyone still playing the 8-bit console. The game picks up after the original, sending the young hero Mike Jones on another time traveling quest to stop the evil Zoda.

You control Mike as he explores different time periods, moving screen by screen through overhead environments. Your main weapon is a yo-yo, which you swing at enemies, and you also use a variety of secondary items like bombs and a slingshot. The goal is to travel through seven distinct eras, from prehistoric times to the distant future, clearing dungeons and defeating bosses to gather pieces of a powerful artifact. The pacing is brisk, with straightforward combat and environmental puzzles, though some later sections can be quite challenging. It feels like a brisk, imaginative tour through history with a trusty yo-yo in hand.
