Star Voyager came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, developed and published by ASCII Corporation. It was one of those early NES titles that tried to do something a little different, a space combat and exploration game that felt ambitious for its time, even if the hardware showed its limits.

You pilot a ship tasked with defending a space station from waves of alien invaders. The main objective is to survive as long as possible, gathering energy and weapon upgrades while navigating a top-down, free-moving playfield. You have to manage your fuel carefully, avoid obstacles like black holes that pull you in, and engage enemy ships in direct combat. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is unforgiving; mistakes are punished quickly. It feels tense and isolating, like you are genuinely alone against an overwhelming threat.
