Play John Barnes European Football Online
1992 soccer game featuring John Barnes and eight national teams. Fast-paced arcade gameplay with forced-perspective view and sticky ball control. Playable on Amiga.

John Barnes European Football came out on the Amiga in 1992, developed by Krisalis Software. It was one of many soccer games from that era, but it stood out because of its official license and the inclusion of the Liverpool and England winger. You could pick from eight national teams, each with their own strengths, and the presentation felt solid for its time, with decent crowd chants and a clear, if simple, visual style.
You control all the players on your chosen team, moving them around a forced-perspective pitch that scrolls smoothly with the action. The main objective is to score more goals than the opponent, either against the computer or a friend. Two mechanics define the experience: the ball sticks to your feet, making dribbling feel direct and responsive, and the game moves at a very fast, almost frantic pace. Matches are short and intense, with a difficulty that encourages quick restarts. It feels like a pure, no-fuss arcade take on soccer, where every tackle and shot happens in a blink.
