Game Overview

Kamen Rider SD: Granshocker no Yabou came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, developed by Bandai. It was part of that late NES wave where licensed games tried to squeeze a little more life out of the aging hardware, often with mixed results. This one is based on the SD, or super deformed, versions of the Kamen Rider heroes, giving everything a cute, miniature look.

You control one of the small Kamen Riders, moving through side-scrolling stages to stop the Granshocker organization. The main objective is to fight through each level, defeat the boss, and move on. Signature mechanics include a simple but responsive punch and jump attack combo, screen by screen enemy encounters that reset when you leave, and occasional vehicle sections that change up the pace. The difficulty is moderate, with some cheap hits from off-screen enemies, but the short length of stages encourages retries. It feels like a straightforward, slightly silly brawler that doesn't overstay its welcome.
