Play Khalaan Online
You start with a few units on this bright, blocky map, nudging them into battles and watching your empire slowly spread—if you can wrestle with the clunky controls long enough. That weirdly satisfying 80s strategy itch.

Khalaan is one of those games from the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a release that bundled a number of titles from the early 90s. I don't recall the developer offhand, but it fits right into that era of strategy games trying to find their footing on PC. You're not getting flashy graphics or a complex story; it's a straightforward, turn-based affair that expects you to figure things out as you go.
You control a small band of units on a grid-based map, moving them one space at a time to engage enemy forces or capture towns. The main goal is to conquer the entire map by eliminating all opposition. Key mechanics include managing unit production from captured structures and carefully positioning your forces to exploit terrain advantages. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly if you overextend. It feels like a careful, methodical puzzle where every move matters.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
