Game Overview

I first came across Killing Game Show on the Amiga back in 1990, a release from Psygnosis that fit right into the era's appetite for slick, challenging side-scrollers. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it had a distinct visual style and a premise that felt a bit more cynical than the usual fare, something that stuck with you after turning off the computer.

You control a contestant forced to fight through a deadly televised game show, moving screen by screen while shooting waves of robotic enemies and dodging environmental traps. The main goal is simply to survive each stage and defeat the boss waiting at the end, collecting power-ups and switching between different weapons along the way. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is unforgiving, with instant death pits and aggressive enemies keeping you on edge. It feels tense and demanding, where every jump and shot counts.
