Game Overview

I picked up The Ren and Stimpy Show Presents Stimpy’s Invention for the Sega Genesis back in 1993, a game published by Sega. It was one of those licensed titles that tried to capture the show's bizarre energy, landing right in the middle of the 16-bit era when platformers were everywhere. The game didn't exactly stand out graphically, but it had that unmistakable gross-out humor the cartoon was known for.

You control Stimpy, navigating through a series of side-scrolling levels inside his own malfunctioning invention. The main goal is to rescue Ren, who's trapped somewhere in the chaotic machine. You jump on giant boogers to bounce higher, use snot-rockets to propel yourself forward, and avoid all sorts of disgusting hazards like sentient toenails and toxic waste. The pacing is frantic, and the controls feel intentionally slippery, which adds to the frustration but also the absurdity. It feels exactly like stumbling through one of Stimpy's poorly thought-out experiments.
