King's Quest V: Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder – Disk 3

King Graham's peaceful day takes a dark turn when his castle—and his family—vanish without a trace. A mysterious talking owl named Cedric reveals the culprit: the wicked wizard Mordack. With Cedric's help, Graham sets off for the land of Serenia to seek aid from the wise wizard Crispin in a race against time to save his loved ones.

This classic adventure game marked a major shift for Sierra, introducing a streamlined point-and-click interface that replaced text commands with intuitive mouse controls. Players guide Graham through a vibrant fantasy world using simple actions like Walk, Look, Interact, and Talk—all accessible through a hidden top-screen menu. Inventory management is equally smooth, with collected items stored in a handy bag for puzzle-solving.

But beware—Serenia is full of dangers! From deadly creatures to environmental hazards, poor choices can lead to Graham's untimely end. Smart players will save often across multiple slots to avoid frustrating setbacks.

The NES version preserves the core adventure while adapting to hardware limits: graphics are simplified, some locations condensed, and certain puzzles streamlined. While less punishing than the original, it retains the charm and challenge that made King's Quest legendary.

A landmark title that redefined adventure gaming, King's Quest V delivers a magical quest full of wonder, danger, and clever puzzles—perfect for fans of classic storytelling and exploration.
