Ocean Software released Lethal Weapon for the NES in 1992, a time when movie tie-in games were common and often a gamble. It was based on the popular action film series, and like many licensed titles from that era, it tried to capture the spirit of its source material within the technical limits of the console.

You control either Riggs or Murtaugh, moving screen by screen through urban environments, punching and kicking an endless supply of thugs. Your main goal is to survive each stage, defeat the boss at the end, and ultimately take down the crime syndicate. The game features co-op play, allowing a second player to join as the other detective, and occasional vehicle sections break up the on-foot brawling. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, with cheap hits and limited continues. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes frustrating brawler that relies heavily on repetition and memorization.
