Lethal Weapon on the NES is exactly what you'd expect from an '80s movie tie-in—loud, chaotic, and a little rough around the edges. You play as Riggs and Murtaugh, punching and kicking your way through LA's criminal underworld with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. The first level throws you right into it: thugs pour out of alleys, cars explode for no reason, and at one point you're literally fighting a helicopter. Classic NES logic.
The two-player co-op is where it shines—grabbing a buddy and trading terrible one-liners while clearing rooms of goons feels like the game’s real charm. The controls are stiff by today’s standards, but there’s something satisfying about the weight of the punches and the way enemies crumple after a well-placed uppercut. And yeah, the soundtrack absolutely slaps—all synthy basslines and punchy drums that somehow make you feel cooler than you actually are while playing.
It’s not going to win awards for depth, but if you’ve got nostalgia for the movie or just love janky old beat-'em-ups, this one’s a riot. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
