LostMagic came out for the Nintendo DS in 2006, developed by Taito. It was part of that early wave of DS games that really tried to use the touch screen for something beyond menus or mini games. The hardware felt new, and this was one of those titles that leaned into it completely, asking you to draw and command rather than just press buttons.
You play as a young boy named Isaac, a magic user who must save the world from a dark force. The core of the game is casting spells by drawing specific runes on the touch screen with the stylus. You capture monsters to fight alongside you, directing them in real time battles across grid based maps. The pacing is deliberate, often difficult, as you manage your limited mana and position your units to survive enemy assaults. It feels like conducting a messy, magical orchestra where every mistake costs you.
