Luigi's Adventure 3 came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed and published by Nintendo. It was one of those later SNES titles that really pushed what the system could do visually, with detailed sprites and some clever use of color and shadow. You control Luigi through a series of haunted mansions, each filled with puzzles and aggressive ghosts. The main goal is to rescue Mario, who has been captured yet again. Luigi uses the Poltergust, a vacuum backpack, to suck up enemies and interact with the environment; you can also use it to hover for a moment, which is crucial for crossing gaps. Exploration is screen by screen, with many hidden passages behind walls or under rugs. The game has a steady pace, not too frantic, but the later mansions get quite tricky with their enemy placements and timing-based obstacles. It feels satisfying to clear a room of ghosts and finally see the exit door unlock.
