Game Overview

Luigi's Adventure 3: Overseas Edition came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed and published by Nintendo. It was one of those later SNES platformers that really pushed the hardware, with big, colorful levels and some clever mechanics that stood out even as the 16-bit era was winding down.

You control Luigi through a series of themed worlds, each broken into smaller, screen by screen areas full of secrets and enemies. Your main goal is to rescue Mario, who's been captured (again), by collecting special coins hidden in each stage. Luigi has a few unique moves, like a high, floaty jump and the ability to use a poltergust-style vacuum to suck up enemies or reveal hidden platforms. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical; you have to take your time looking for hidden paths and managing your limited inventory of items. It feels surprisingly tense and thoughtful for a platformer, with a real sense of isolation as you explore each strange new location alone.
