M.C. Kids came out on the NES in 1992, published by Virgin Interactive. It was a licensed game built around McDonald's, which was a common enough sight on the console, but it stood out for being more than just a quick cash-in. You played as one of two kids trying to help Ronald McDonald get his magic bag back from the Hamburglar.
You control a kid who runs and jumps through levels that look like a surreal, blocky version of the McDonald's universe. Your main goal is to find hidden playing cards in each stage, which act as the keys to progress. The signature mechanics involve picking up and throwing blocks, not just at enemies but to build steps or trigger switches, and a lot of the challenge comes from searching every nook for secrets. The pacing is methodical, more about exploration than speed, and some of the later levels get genuinely tricky with their platforming demands. It feels like a solid, thoughtful platformer that just happens to have a lot of familiar golden arches in the background.
