Madden NFL '94 on SNES was the first time the series really clicked for me. You get this slick play-call screen where you can flip formations last second to fake out your buddy—nothing felt better than pulling off a perfect bluff play while they were scrambling to adjust. The pass-catch mechanic was new too, letting you actually control the receiver after the throw instead of just hoping for the best. It’s still got that classic 16-bit roughness, but you can see where modern football games started taking shape. Definitely the Madden that made me care about football games.
