Magic Carpet came out in 1994 for MS-DOS, published by Electronic Arts. It was one of those games that felt genuinely new at the time, blending flight, spellcasting, and terrain deformation in a way that few titles attempted. The technology was impressive for its day, using early 3D rendering to create vast, open landscapes you could freely explore and alter.
You control a wizard flying on a magic carpet, casting spells to defeat monsters and claim mana from rival sorcerers. Your main goal is to reclaim mana by clearing enemy castles and creatures from each level. Signature mechanics include terraforming the land to access hidden areas or create defensive barriers, and managing your mana reserves to power spells and rebuild your castle. The pacing is deliberate, often requiring careful planning before engaging large groups of enemies. It feels chaotic and strategic at once, especially when dragons appear or enemy wizards counter your moves.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
