You start as this lone swordsman just... wandering. No giant "DESTINY" sign hanging over your head, no kingdom begging to be saved—just you, some shady tavern rumors, and a whole world that actually lets you ignore the main quest if you feel like it. The combat’s this weirdly satisfying mix of real-time dodging (think Zelda) and turn-based menus (hello, Final Fantasy), which keeps fights from feeling stale. And the spritework? Gorgeous. Like, "how was this hidden for 30 years?" gorgeous.

What really hooked me was how the game doesn’t hold your hand. You’ll stumble into a cave, get wrecked by some bats, then realize you probably should’ve bought a torch first. Classic RPG logic. The fan translation by KingMike makes all the NPC chatter and item descriptions actually readable, which helps when you’re trying to figure out why that one shopkeeper keeps ranting about turnips.
