Cantona’s pixelated collar pops as you hoof chunky through-balls to Giggs, who somehow still feels lightning-fast even as a blocky sprite. The keeper barely dives, but nailing a top-corner screamer with those janky controls hits different.

Manchester United The Double came out in 1994 for MS-DOS, developed by Krisalis Software. It was a time when football games were still figuring themselves out, and this one tried to capture the specific thrill of United's 1993/94 Premier League and FA Cup winning season. You got to play through that entire campaign, not just a random exhibition match, which felt pretty novel back then.
You control the entire Manchester United squad, switching between players to pass, tackle, and shoot. The main goal is to win both competitions, navigating a full fixture list. The gameplay is split between a top-down view for general movement and a close-up, side-on view when you enter the final third for a shot on goal. Matches are fast and a bit chaotic, with an emphasis on quick passing moves and trying to get into those scoring positions. It captures the simple, frantic joy of a good counter-attack.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
