Mark of the Wolfs came out for the Game Boy Color in 1999, developed and published by SNK. It was part of that late 90s wave of portable action games, where developers tried to squeeze arcade style brawling onto the small screen. You control a half beast warrior named B. Jenet, moving through side scrolling stages filled with enemies. Your main goal is to fight from one end of each level to the other, defeating bosses along the way. The combat relies on chaining together quick slashes, special moves, and a rapid dash attack that lets you close distance or evade. Enemies swarm you constantly, so you have to keep moving and attacking to survive. It feels responsive and aggressive, with a difficulty that pushes you to master its rhythm. Playing it is like riding a wave of controlled chaos.
