Game Overview
Marvel Super Heroes - War of the Gems is one of those classic Capcom beat 'em ups that somehow flew under the radar. You pick from six heroes—Wolverine, Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, or (weirdly) Black Panther—and punch your way through waves of Thanos' minions. The sprite work is gorgeous, especially for an SNES game, and each character actually feels different—Hulk smashes, Spidey webslings, Wolvie just goes berserk.
It’s got that satisfying Capcom combo flow, but with Marvel’s cosmic drama slapped on top. You’ll recognize stages ripped straight from the Infinity Gauntlet comics, like fighting on a crumbling moon or inside Doctor Strange’s messed-up pocket dimensions. The boss fights are the real highlight—nothing like trading blows with a screen-filling Thanos while gems rain chaos in the background.
Fair warning: It’s tough as nails in that old-school way where you’ll burn through continues if you button-mash. But nailing a perfect air combo with Iron Man’s repulsors? Worth every Game Over.
