Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems came out for the Super Nintendo in 1996, developed by Capcom. It was one of those late era action platformers that felt like a solid, straightforward effort before the shift to newer consoles. The game draws from the Infinity Gauntlet comic event, which was a smart way to pull in different heroes and villains without needing a complex setup.
You control one of five Marvel characters, like Iron Man or Captain America, each with their own moves and attack styles. The goal is to recover the Infinity Gems across side scrolling stages, fighting through waves of enemies and avoiding environmental hazards. You explore screen by screen, defeat mini bosses, and collect health and power up items. The pacing is brisk, though some sections can feel repetitive, and the difficulty has those classic SNES spikes, especially during boss encounters. It feels like a straightforward comic book brawler with just enough variety to keep you pushing forward.
