Game Overview
Marvel Super Heroes - War of the Gems is one of those SNES brawlers that feels like it got lost in translation—literally, since it never left Japan. You pick from Capcom’s usual suspects (Wolverine, Spider-Man, etc.) and punch your way through Thanos’ goons in a side-scrolling beat-em-up that loosely follows the Infinity Gauntlet comics. The controls are stiff compared to, say, X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse, but there’s something charming about how Capcom just throws random Marvel villains at you between levels. Also, the music slaps harder than Hulk on a bad day.
It’s not the deepest fighter, but if you’re into 90s Marvel nostalgia and don’t mind some janky hitboxes, it’s a fun time. Just don’t expect the depth of MvC—this is pure arcade-style button mashing with a comic book coat of paint.
