You control Dr. Ferdinand Social, a physician investigating a wave of supernatural murders. Your goal is to hunt down the source of the evil, moving through haunted mansions, graveyards, and sewers. The game uses a screen by screen exploration structure, with branching paths and hidden rooms to discover. Combat involves using a primary weapon like a cane sword or axe, along with sub weapons such as throwing daggers or a limited use pistol. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is notable, with enemies that respawn when you leave and re-enter a screen. It feels tense and methodical, demanding careful movement and resource management with every step into the darkness.
