Game Overview

Medarot 4 - Kuwagata Version is one of those weird little Game Boy Color RPGs that somehow sticks with you. You start off as this kid who stumbles into the world of Medarots—basically customizable robot fighters shaped like bugs, animals, and other random stuff. The Kuwagata version gives you a team centered around this badass stag beetle robot, which looks way cooler than it has any right to on a tiny GBC screen.

The battles are turn-based but with a twist—you pick three actions per Medarot (left arm, right arm, legs) and hope your setup counters whatever the enemy’s throwing at you. At first, I just slapped on whatever parts looked strongest, but halfway through, I realized some of the goofier combinations (like stacking evasion on a fast, lightweight bot) actually wrecked shop. The pixel art’s full of charm, especially when your customized beetle-bot does its victory pose after a fight.

If you’ve played Pokémon and wished it had more tinkering under the hood, this is your jam. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand—half the fun is figuring out why your weird little robot squad either dominates or faceplants in battle.
