Game Overview

Metagalactic Llamas: Battle At The Edge Of Time came out in 1983 for the Amiga, developed by Llamasoft Ltd. and published by Salamander Software. It was one of those early titles that tried to push what the system could do, blending action with a quirky sci-fi theme. You don't see many games about spacefaring llamas, even back then.

You control a team of llamas defending Outpost OP/37 from waves of descending Cyborg Arachnid Mutants across 32 levels. Each stage throws 18 enemies at you, and you need to shoot them down while avoiding contact, which costs lives. The shooting mechanics stand out: you can fire at 45 degree angles or use ricochet shots to hit foes around obstacles. It supports one or two players in a turn-based structure, and you can even select your starting difficulty to tailor the challenge. The game moves at a deliberate pace, demanding careful aim and positioning rather than frantic reflexes. It feels tactical and a little absurd, in the best way possible.
