Game Overview

Metal Max came out for the NES in 1991, developed by Crea-Tech. It was a time when a lot of RPGs stuck to traditional fantasy, but this one dropped you into a dusty, open post-apocalypse instead. You weren't saving a princess in a castle; you were just trying to survive in a world that had already fallen apart.

You control a bounty hunter, driving a customizable tank across a large map, taking on jobs to earn money for better gear. The main goal is to hunt down the game's major villains, but you spend most of your time exploring towns, talking to strange characters, and fighting enemies in turn-based combat that happens both on foot and in your vehicle. A big part of the game is finding and upgrading new parts for your tank, like engines, armor, and weapons, which makes your travels a little less dangerous. The world is open and fairly difficult, with strong enemies in some areas that will destroy you if you wander too far unprepared. It feels less like a guided story and more like making your own way through a broken world, always weighing risk against the next upgrade.
